I am presently teaching a Sunday school class to the young ladies of the church here in Francistown.
It has been a lot of fun to get to know them better and learn more about their culture through their eyes!
I would like to share a portion of one of the lessons that I am doing with the girls. We are studying the theme of “Lies Young Woman Believe.” I am using a book that is sold in the LVBC bookstore in case you are interested in something good and helpful to read. We are learning about some of the lies that Satan tells you that can cause a Christian young lady to feel depressed and alone during some of the happiest years of her life. (Editor’s Note: You can also purchase Lies Women Believe for adult ladies!)
One of the lies that Satan would have you to believe is that “God is not enough.” He doesn’t want you to trust in God wholly and completely. He knows that, as a Christian, he can’t steal away your soul, but he does want to rob you of an intimate relationship with the Lord. How does he do that? He causes women to believe that they need their friends more than they need God. Most of the time ladies will text message or talk to a friend if they need advice about something or have a problem rather than talk to God about it. He will convince ladies that it is easier and faster to talk to a friend because they will give you an immediate response and they will take your side. He wants ladies to believe that it is much easier to talk to a friend face to face rather than take the time to go to God in prayer and seek His will and advice.
The TRUTH of the matter is when we look to our friends to meet our needs and fill the deepest places of our hearts, they become idols in our lives.
Idols are things or people that we look to as being more important than God is. They are things or people that we allow in our lives that we turn to emotionally instead of God. There is no human on this planet that can satisfy they deepest longings of the heart. When we place our trust and affection in people, we become insecure. Our friends let us down. They move away. They change. Ladies should be putting all of their trust and emotions into the One that never changes and Who will never leave us!
The TRUTH of the matter is that God IS enough!!
He will meet your needs and wants to be your closest friend. He is the One that can heal your heart when it is broken. He is the One that can encourage, guide and protect you. He is the One that can make you feel safe when others fail you. He is the One that can make you feel valued regardless of what you can or can’t do.
We get to now God better as we spend time reading and thinking about what He is saying to us in His Word, or as we pray or meet with others to worship Him or study the Bible together. The more time we spend with Him, the more we get to know Him. The more you get to know God, the more you see that He is all you need! Don’t go to church or read your Bible because you HAVE to. Do these things because you NEED to and because you WANT to know God better! That is how we defeat the lie of the devil that “God is not enough.”
Whom have I in heaven but thee? And there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee. – Psalm 73:25
I hope this has been an encouragement to you ladies! I pray that you don’t fall into this lie of the devil!
