Almost two years ago…
I ran across a fitness group on Facebook, thanks to seeing a post from a sweet gal in a supporting church. I had just had my baby girl and wasn’t exactly pleased with the direction my health was going in. I soon started participating in their “program” and over the next several months, my husband and I began to incorporate the program into our family’s health, and saw some decent results.
At this point you may be asking, “Well, what was the program?” It’s simple, actually: cutting out a lot of sugar, eating fruits and veggies, drinking water, and exercising. Actually, I take that back. It was mostly simple, except for the days of detoxing. You see, being addicted to sugar is tough and that’s exactly where I was at. So it was definitely a challenge to cut back on sugar, but the fact of the matter was I knew I was eating way too much sugar, and something had to change. (Ouch!)
You know what’s crazy? Even though I knew better, I’ve actually fallen back into the trap of “It’s ok if I eat ______.” Several times, actually. (Blush) Then I wonder what went wrong when I’m irritable, bloated, moody, and just want to crawl back into bed! Well, duh, Anne. 🙂
The good news is I don’t have to sit there filling my body with not-so-good things and wonder what to do about it. Every time I start heading back in the right direction, it gets easier and I actually enjoy it! I already know what to do, and so it boils down to me giving myself a stern talk and firmly saying, “Just do it already!”
As I was praying about some goals for the New Year, I realized a huge weakness in my spiritual life is fasting. I don’t know why, but fasting has always seemed very intimidating to me; something only super-Christians can do. Since I know that’s ridiculous (where’s that chapter and verse on super-Christians again?!), I’ve had to give myself a stern talk and firmly say, “Just do it already!” I know this isn’t going to be “easy” because it’s been a while since I fasted, but like a sugar detox, I have to go on a flesh detox and tell myself no at times.

Living in Thailand is a daily adventure for Anne Williams and her family of six. In between all of the many language blunders, running after toddlers, and giving the neighbors plenty to smile at, she is grateful God’s grace is always available just when she needs it.
