Perhaps you've heard of the term mirror therapy. There are many different uses for it in the world of rehabilitation. Often with an amputation, for example, it is used to deal with phantom pain. Pain that is associated with a limb that no longer exists. Through mirror therapy, the phantom pain can be healed. A mirror is used to create a reflection of a person's unaffected limb in place of the affected one. By looking into the mirror when the unaffected arm or leg is moving the brain can actually be rewired or transformed to think the affected one is moving, healed and whole. It doesn't happen instantly, but as the therapy continues, the phantom pain becomes less and less with time.
For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: For he beholdeth himself, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.James 1:23-25
Just as mirror therapy has the patient looking into a mirror to rewire or renew their mind by focusing on that which is whole. So by looking into the Word of God, referred to as a mirror, we will renew our mind. Romans 12:2 says, And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. Ephesians 4:23 says, And be renewed in the spirit of your mind.
Perhaps you have been broken by pain, loss, difficult circumstances - phantom pains that last far beyond the initial injury. When it throbs, look into the mirror of God's Word. Then through the power of the Holy Spirit, allow Him to renew your mind and heal you as you consistently (probably even several times a day) look at the reflection of God's Word. We must constantly be setting our broken and wearied thoughts behind the perfect, whole Word of God. We will be renewed by the Truths of what God has declared to be true about Himself. Truths He has declared about us - we are forgiven, righteous, loved, justified, accepted, to name a few. We will also be renewed as we view what God wants us to become - again His perfect Image - becoming like Christ in our life.

He Hears
