One Same Cause

United-we-Stand

On these same chairs we sit each week,
In the same congregation stand;
Each member takes their usual place,
A hymnal held out in our hands.

We look around to see each face,
Of friends and family;
Another Sunday has arrived,
A chance for ministry.

Together here we stand,
As sinners saved by grace.
Each with his own burdens,
Unique paths of life we trace.

Our histories so different,
Our weaknesses and strengths;
Our interest, personalities,
Our looks, each circumstance.

Each with a different testimony,
Of the power of the Lord;
Each has come to hear from God,
To praise, to read His Word.
Oh, so many differences,
So many walks to life;
Behind each face lie joys and hurts,
A tale of wrongs and rights.

Yet on we strive together,
To reach the one same goal.
We lift the name of Jesus high;
Together his banner uphold.

Saved by the same dear Savior;
Committed to one same cause.
Devoted to give our lives and wills;
Living for Christ’s applause.

Loving and helping each other,
Confessing our faults and sin;
Knowing we fail, we beg for God’s mercy,
And are grateful again to begin.

This is the picture, my brethren, we see,
Each week in the church as we meet;
What a treasure we have to be with each other.
Fellowship with saints – oh, so sweet.

Keeping the focus on Christ,
Serving, and Praising his name.
Remember in spite of each difference,
Our hearts truly beat just the same.

Put aside quarrels between us,
Take mercy and grace from His hand.
We’ll conquer our foe; We’ll struggle and grow.
Forgiven, united, we stand.

And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.   Hebrews 10:24-25
