Kristin Hammett – Village Vista

By Kristin Hammett
About an hour from the airport, George got an email notification on his phone that Delta Airlines had tried to call. They said, “Do not proceed to
airport until you speak with us. Your flight has been cancelled.” We were on our way to the airport to return to South Africa for our 3rd term. After several hours of going back and forth on the phone trying to get on a different flight somehow, we realized we wouldn’t be leaving that day. We spent the night near the airport and left 24 hours later. Eventually we made it – and so did all our bags, which was a miracle!

We were very grateful to have a rental house possibility before we even left the USA. Months before our return, the realtor emailed us and asked us if we still needed a house. One had just opened up. After we returned last furlough we had to spend many weeks in a Bed & Breakfast as there were no houses available. We sure had been praying for a house this time! Needless to say, we were grateful for how God dropped this house right in our laps. There wasn’t even anything else on the market to look at when we arrived. In answer to our prayer, He also made it abundantly clear that this was the house for us. What a gift to be able to move in a week after we landed in South Africa! We have enjoyed the new neighborhood and meeting new neighbors. We have cute little monkeys visit us daily! We also have a banana tree, a lemon tree, a papaya tree, and a mango tree. God always intentionally places you where He does.

Since we moved in though, the children and I have been sick almost the entire time. I have been sick for almost 2 months now with various things. We would appreciate your prayers for our family during these physical trials. We still have a few more boxes to unpack, curtains to hang, and purchases to make, but that will get done as we have the health to do so.

Despite the physical trials, there have been many ministry open doors. Though as always, some walk away during a furlough, many have remained. God has put us in contact with several new open doors and has already been working in hearts and drawing people to Himself. We just want to be used of Him wherever He may lead. Many in our world are desperate, hopeless, and must know the truth that “Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God…” 2 Peter 1:2.

On the home front, the kids are enjoying the summer sun – and all the bug bites that accompany summertime. 🙂 We are trying to keep up with the school work and not get too far behind!

I have been continually reminded these past two months, that we all have a refuge (escape) that we run to when things overwhelm us or frighten us. To whom or to what do I run to for refuge? There is only One Refuge that is truly a help and always near.

Love, Kristin
